All her life, Fatema Dewji has battled stereotypes and cultural norms, and she wanted to launch a clothing line that empowered other women to do the same. She created wearable inspiration, centered around stories of powerful females throughout history.
We knew we could develop clear messaging that felt true to her brand and values by integrating the stories of iconic Muslim women through history with inspirational quotes.
DRESS FOR WHO YOU WANT TO BE
Modest fashion is everywhere. With modest fashion bloggers and hijab-wearing influencers gaining popularity, popular culture is starting to carve a space for Islamic fashion. At a time where diversity is en vogue, FD wanted to release more than a trend. FD wanted to initiate movement using apparel as a medium.
#FDTheMovement allows FD to share character-driven stories that inspire. With each t-shirt, we crafted a character, mood, and attitude. Each persona derives inspiration from a female figure in Islamic history, connecting customers with familiar stories with a modern application.
As a South Asian Muslim woman, I faced oppressive stereotypes and limiting cultural expectations.
And I broke through them all.
Despite failure and tragedy, I kept going, even when no one believed in me. It’s a story of the legacy of womanhood of the power each and every one of us holds within us.
I’m not interested in listing my accolades. I want to talk about purpose. To describe the mindful daily decisions to contribute to a goal bigger than me. For anyone that feels low, unmotivated, limited, or inadequate, this is for you. Now’s the time to rethink your goals, pen new dreams, and focus on self-improvement.
